What you need to know about Leonardo Dicaprio and Champagne Telmont

Leonardo DiCaprio is one of the most famous actors and film producers on the planet, known for his roles in everything from Titanic and The Basketball Diaries, to The Departed, Catch Me if You Can and What's Eating Gilbert Grape. He's won numerous accolades, including an Academy Award, a British Academy Film Award, and three Golden Globes, and he's a passionate advocate for the environment. His talents don't stop there however, the man has also put his name to Champagne Telmont, linked to his commitment to protecting biodiversity and renewable energy. Here's what you need to know.

Leonardo Dicaprio's journey into the world of Champagne

With plans to market a 100% organic champagne by 2025, Leonardo Dicaprio and the team at Belmont are aspirational about their eco-friendly approach, but the actor's journey into the world of champagne began after being inspired by the century-old Champagne house's vision for sustainability. He had known Ludovic du Plessis, CEO of Telmont, for a number of years, and the story goes that upon learning about their aggressive sustainability plan — creating sustainable, organic Champagnes with a focus on land preservation and biodiversity - he bought a stake in the brand. Telmont is now overseen by its fourth generation cellar master and head of viticulture Bertrand Lhôpital. Du Plessis was quoted in Forbes, saying: “When I shared the plans for my project with Leo, he liked them so much he decided to join as an investor. His support is very meaningful and his involvement is an accelerator. There is a lot of common sense behind this project.”

What the reviews say about Champagne Telmont

There's no one quite like the critics to give you an insight into the success of a champagne collaboration and Champagne Telmont seems to meet with approval as a reliable option as a gift or to serve with dinner.

"A delighful Champagne, made by a family-owned Champagne house. A Chardonnay/Pinot Noir/Pinot Meunier blend, presenting complex richness and elegance with lifted toasty, yeasty, brioche notes and apple and honey-touched flavours. Creamy, delightful fine mousse and bright acidity." - Decanter, on the De Telmont, Grande Réserve NV

"Loads of bubbles with a straw-like color in the glass. The nose has a buttery, yeast laden, tree fruit, and marzipan quality. Nothing too complex, but lightly sweet, with some savory notes. Finishes with a medium long fade. A really nice and affordable Champagne." - Good Spirits News, Champagne Telmont Reserve Brut
